You can save electrical energy, gain more comfort in lighting and stretch out the life of fluorescent tubes by using electronic ballasts.

Electronic Ballasts

All the above mentioned advantages can be reached through a high working frequency of fluorescent tubes. It varies between 25 - 70kHz depending on the type of ballast and light source. Life span prolongation and reduction of luminous flux of fluorescent tubes are shown in the graph. This concerns standard T8 fluorescent lamps (ø=26mm) and TCL to 36W. Difference of luminaires supply is evident in table.

T5 (ø=16mm) and TCL 55W fluorescent lamps are used only with electronic ballasts.

Luminous flux reduction

Company Elkovo Čepelík is not producer of electronic ballasts. We only use electronic ballasts of world-known producers (Helvar, Tridonic, Philips, Osram,) as component of luminaires.

  • The luminaires T5, T8 and TCL are fitted with an electronic ballast as standard.
  • Wiring with MAGNETIC BALLASTS - VVG is possible by all T8, TCL products - on request

Advantages of using electronic ballasts as opposed to conventional connexion:

  • almost immediate start without flashing (the starting time depends on the construction of the ballast)
  • higher specific output (lower input)
  • lower losses on ballast - see p.147
  • life of fluorescent lamps stretched from c.12 000 hours to 16 000 hours
  • elimination of potential stroboscopic effect
  • optional dimming (with dimmable ballasts)

Intelligent (universal) Electronic Ballasts

Intelligent ballasts: multi-functional ballasts can be used for T5 (ø=16mm) fluorescent lamps . With these ballasts, you can use fluorescent lamps with different output (e.g. you can use 2x54W fluorescent lamps in a 2x28W light fitting as well).


DIMMING (CONTROLS) of fluorescent luminaires

In case the luminaires is equip by dimmable electronic ballast it allows fluent control of lighting in range 1-100% and this implies save the energy.

  • Analog control (1-10V)
    Analog control is the oldest and simplest type of regulation. It is mainly used for small systems together with a manual regulator or a daylight sensor for automatic regulation - detailed information to dimming
  • DALIT
    he DALI digital control is the a state-of-the-art type of regulation and control used in modern installations for integration of a system into intelligent building control - detailed information to dimming
  • Touch and DIM
    Some dimmable ballasts can be controlled with a button. The control is done in the following way: You can switch the light on/off by pushing the button for a short time. By pushing the button for a longer time, you can increase or reduce light - detailed information to dimming
  • DSI and Corridor function
    Dimmable ballasts from Tridonic offer the possibilities of regulation with a button, DSI digital signal and also with motion sensors. Corridor function is used in corridors where light can be controlled by the presence of people. A common motion sensor (PIR) is used for the control - detailed information to dimming
